The Temple in Jerusalem

Presently there is no Temple of God in Jerusalem

There has to be a third Jewish temple in Jerusalem before Jesus can come back. He does not change his Word and everything He says will happen must occur before his return at the rapture. If you state that Jesus can come back at anytime you are essentially saying that you don’t know anything about the book of Revelation or bible prophecy but you have an opinion about the Lord’s return anyway.

Revelation 11:1-2 is quite clear that there must be a Jewish temple in Jerusalem before the rapture.

1 And then I was given a measuring rod like a staff, and I was told, “Get up and measure the temple of God and the altar and those that worship in it. 2 But the court which is outside the temple, leave it out and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles, and they will trample on the holy city for forty-two months. –Revelation 11:1-2 (GFS)

In Israel today there is no third Jewish temple. The Temple Mount is controlled by the Palestinians so the likelihood of there being a third Jewish temple without serious conflict is not likely. What is a likely possibility is that archaeologists discover that the area to the far right of the Western Wall and a little further right of Robinson’s Arch, is actually the location of Solomon’s Temple that Herod enlarged.  This currently is an area of nothing but ruins next to the Dung Gate leading to the City of David (down the big hill heading toward the pool of Siloam). The Palestinians do not control this area. There have been a number of archaeologists who have determined that this area is in fact the area of Solomon’s Temple. The chief reason is that Jesus said in Matthew 24:2 that every stone would be overturned and nothing would remain. The only thing that is still in place from the days of the Apostles is what is referred today as the Temple Mount. The problem with that is Jesus said nothing would remain. So the likelihood that the modern day Temple Mount is not the are of Solomon’s Temple is supported by the fact that when Jerusalem was sacked (totally decimated) in 70 A.D. the Roman army probably would not have destroyed they own fortress, and living quarters, which housed over 10,000 soldiers. There are many scholars who believe today that the Temple Mount is actually Antonio’s fortress or the area of the Roman garrison in the days of Jesus and the Apostles.

This makes a lot of sense, but also does not bode well for prophecy-minded folks who might think that things are going to get better. Here’s why. All of the furniture that would go into a third Jewish temple already exists. Many of these items are on display in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City in Jerusalem. Since they exist all that is needed is for a temple to be built. I would imagine that once the go ahead is given to build that temple on the site of Solomon’s old temple (the area of ruins next to the current Temple Mount), that it would go up rather quickly.

Now you have to understand some things about the book of Revelation to get a clearer picture of the last days. Once the Temple is completed, at some point, Israel is completely overrun by Gentiles. That is mentioned in Revelation 11:1-2. There are extremely terrible events that are mentioned as having occurred starting in Revelation 6. So the building of the temple may actually be the catalyst that starts the terrifying events of Revelation 6, 8, and 9. At any rate, it is important to know that no matter what happens, the fact that Israel is overrun does not speak well of the United States in prophecy. The U.S. would never let that happen under most circumstances. We have too much of a close relationship with Israel for that to even be considered. Not to mention treaties requiring our assistance if Israel is attacked. So what could possibly happen to the United States that would allow Israel to be overrun? Either the United States has been militarily defeated or incapacitated or it just refuses to help Israel. And the only way that refusal seems plausible is through a U.S. government run by the Democratic Party that despises Israel. Interesting!
