Why Do I Need to Be a Christian?

Becoming a Christian restores mans relationship to the God of the Universe

God desires that everyone be saved and that no one perish. Essentially this means that God wants no one to spend eternity in hell. But anyone who does not accept Jesus as the Savior of the world, as the Messiah, will eventually die and spend eternity in hell. That is the short answer as to why people should become Christians is to live a life acceptable to God and guarantee their eternal security.

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. —2 Peter 3:9

Let’s Start With Adam – The First Man

Adam is responsible for the curse that mankind currently suffers from whether individuals recognize it or not. When you read the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden you have to recognize that God was looking for something when he made man. He was looking for someone to fellowship with. So God made Adam. Adam was the closest thing God could create. Adam was perfect. He was able to have a relationship with God that was unparalleled.

But Adam broke that relationship by committing the sin of disobeying God. Adam was told not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden of Eden. God said that the day you eat of this tree you will surely die (Genesis 2:15-17). But the woman was deceived into eating from the tree by the Devil. Adam was not deceived. He ate from the tree because he saw that his wife’s nature had changed. She was different. Since Adam was created by God Adam had attributes like God. One of the attributes was the ability to love—unconditionally. Adam ate from the forbidden tree because of his love for his wife. He did it for his wife, his bride. But by doing do he plunged mankind into separation from God. The ultimate eternal separation from God after judgment is hell.
