Should Christians Get the Coronavirus Vaccine?
It’s actually a simple question to answer. And it is totally dependent on what your convictions are. Since I have little concern for what the world (the unsaved) does, I will address my remarks to those people of faith. And more specifically those who profess a belief in Charismatic Christianity. And since I have no intention of telling some other Charismatic Christian what he or she should do, I will limit my remarks to what I believe about taking the vaccine, for me.
I personally won’t take the vaccine unless forced to do so. My reason is simple; I believe in 1 Peter 2:24.
By whose stripes you were healed. —1 Peter 2:24
There have been many Charismatic Christians who have not taken the vaccine and died from the Corona virus. And there have been a number of reasons for their refusal. Some have done so on the grounds that their personal freedom dictates they do not have to take a vaccine; some believe that God will protect them from the virus; some believe that the virus is some kind of conspiracy; and some felt compelled because of their job, or pressure from other Christians or Christian leaders to take the vaccine. I’m sure there are other reasons people use to defend their position, but for me, they are all irrelevant.
My personal reason for not taking the virus is conviction based on the Word of God. I believe in divine healing but not in the traditional sense. I don’t believe God heals today. I believe that God completed His healing work with the death and resurrection of Jesus. Healing is part of the atonement which was accomplished on the cross. Healing is part of the salvation message. I believe God will restore people to health today, but no longer heals people today. You may say that is splitting hairs, but it isn’t. It’s Scriptural, and it’s a mindset. If you find yourself with sickness and you ask God to heal you, then you have an understanding of divine healing that is not based on Scripture. Jesus came to destroy the works of the Devil; He went around doing good and healing all those who were oppressed by the Devil; and He fulfilled the prophesy in Isaiah 53:4.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the Devil. —1 John 3:8
He went around healing all that were oppressed by the Devil. —Acts 10:38
When evening had come, they brought to Him many that were possessed with devils. And he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all that were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, saying, “He took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” —Matthew 8:16-17
If you recognize that sickness is an attack from the Devil and that you are already healed, then you will have a different approach with God for the health-related situation you find yourself in. This is not taught much today, even in Charismatic circles. This is one of many reasons that Christians seeking God for healing, based solely on their faith (no medications), usually don’t find it.
My conviction for healing is that true Bible believing Christians are already healed and sickness and disease are an attempt by the Devil to steal the health of a believer.
The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. —John 10:10
We are told to use our shield of faith against the fiery darts of the Devil.
Above all taking the shield of faith, by which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the the evil one. —Ephesians 6:16
We have been given total authority of the power of the enemy.
Behold I give you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. —Luke 10:19
We are told to submit our selves to God and the Devil will leave us.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you. —James 4:7
And we are told that God has a plan for our future.
For I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts to prosper you and not harm you, to give you hope and a future. —Jeremiah 29:11
Bad things come our way and succeed because of our failure to understand the Word of God and how to apply it to our lives.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge —Hosea 4:6
I won’t take the vaccine for the Corona virus because of my conviction of the Word of God. If I should die because of the virus, then I would hope to die fighting the Devil and standing in faith on the Word of God. Ultimately, the plan for all believers is to make it into heaven. Those who have died who believed in Jesus have accomplished that goal. Maybe their reasons didn’t make sense—God knows!
For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. —Philippians 1:21
Jesus died on the cross at Calvary and conquered sin, death, and sickness. The Coronavirus is one of those things conquered at the cross. I would no more criticize a Charismatic Christian for taking the vaccine for Coronavirus than I would for a person suffering from some other sickness or disease and taking medication to heal them. Everyone is given a measure of faith, and it is in that which you must make your decisions regarding your relationship with the Father, through Jesus Christ. It would be nice if we could understand our full potential as sons of God and recognize that we have been raised up and are seated with Jesus in heavenly places.
And has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. —Ephesians 2:6
And there is no sickness in heaven!
